As you already know, helldivers 2 went through quite a strong controversy in recent days. Because players need to link their Steam profiles with a PlayStation Network account, Arrowhead Games’ work received negative reviews, with many demanding a refund on PC. To everyone’s surprise, One of the people who were in favor of this was the Community Manager of the studio, who has been fired in the last few hours.
According to GamesRadar+, the user known as Spitzer took on the role of Community Manager at Arrowhead some time ago, with the focus of creating a healthy community in helldivers 2. However, during the whole disaster a few days ago, this person took the side of the public, and encouraged users to leave negative reviews on Steam and demand refunds. While this was liked by players, it was not something that Arrowhead and Sony appreciated. In this way, it has become known that Spitzer was fired from his position. This is what he said about it:
“It’s generally not a good idea to tell people to refund and leave negative reviews when you’re a community manager. TIL. I appreciate all the support and I appreciate even more that everyone can play again without restrictions. I knew I was taking a risk with what I said about refunds and review changes. I keep it. My job was to represent the community, that’s what I did
I wanted to work for Arrowhead because it’s my favorite studio of all time. I had that opportunity. I am grateful for that opportunity. I would gladly continue working for them if I had the choice, but that’s not up to me or anyone else here. “I can leave happy and I don’t want anyone to cause trouble on my behalf, especially people I still have a lot of love and respect for.”
At the moment, there is no official statement from Arrowhead regarding Spitzer’s departure, and their message indicates that It was his decisions made during this controversy that affected his position within the company.. We can only wait to see what will happen to the Community Manager position in the future. On related topics, you can learn more about this case here. Similarly, helldivers 2 could come to Xbox.
Author’s Note:
This is a shame. As Spitzer mentions, his job was to support the community, but it seems that in this coercion he went too far. At the end of the day, they are all employees, and attacking your own company can be seen as a very bad thing, and the consequences were not long in coming on this occasion.
