Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 for reasons of cinematographic staging presents some black bands at the vertical edges of the screen. A choice not appreciated by all players, in particular because it is not possible to remove them via the game options or by changing the resolution. Fortunately, a simple and quick modification of a game file is enough to overcome this problem and, if desired, also disable chromatic aberration and the grain effect filter.
To do this you simply need to edit the Engine.ini file inside one of the game folders. To be precise, it is located at the path Usersname%LOCALAPPDATA%Hellblade2SavedConfig.
The file is located in the “WinGDK” folder if you purchased Hellblade 2 on the Microsoft Store or are playing it via Game Pass, or in “Windows” if you purchased it on Steam. Once the Engine file is open, scroll to the bottom of the list and add the following commands under (SystemSettings) depending on what you want to change.
Remove black bars:
r.NT.AllowAspectRatioHorizontalExtension=0
r.NT.EnableConstrainAspectRatio=0
Remove film grain effect:
r.FilmGrain=0
Remove lens distortion effect:
r.NT.Lens.Distortion.Intensity=0
r.NT.Lens.Distortion.Stretch=0
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is available on PC and Xbox
As reported by dsogaming, removing the black bars and therefore viewing the game in full screen reduces performance. According to the tests, in the case of an RTX 4090 a drop of approximately 14 fps was noted.
For those who don’t know, as of yesterday Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is available on PC and Xbox Series X|S and in the PC and Xbox Game Pass catalog. If you are undecided whether to buy/download it or not, we suggest you read our review of Hellblade 2.
