Héctor Moreno is one of the most outstanding players in Mexican soccer in the last decade and a half. The central defender had a long and successful career in the Old Continent and has been a benchmark in the Mexican National Team for several years. Recently the Monterrey player made some statements that have generated a lot of controversy.
The 34-year-old central defender indicated in a press conference that the Rayados squad would have the quality to compete with European teams and be in international club competitions. “We have a squad with a lot of quality. I have no doubt that it would compete, it would play in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. It would compete without any doubt,” said Moreno.
The defender, originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa, added that Monterrey does not ask anything of the clubs in which he played in Europe and that the current squad could compete “without any doubt” in a long tournament.
Héctor Moreno’s statements have generated controversy in the environment. The journalist David Faitelson, from the ESPN network, referred to the comment made by the central defender and sent him a harsh response.
Faitelson indicated that, “with all due respect,” Moreno needs a good vacation. The communicator affirmed that it is irresponsible to throw phrases like these and that this type of statement would be expected from an inexperienced rookie and not from a player with his career.
In Europe, Héctor Moreno played for AZ Alkmaar, Espanyol, PSV Eindhoven, Roma and Real Sociedad. The defender played in the Old Continent between January 2008 and July 2019.
