According to the police in East Brabant, many reports of flooding were received in a short time at the end of the afternoon on Sunday. It was raining phone calls, especially from Eindhoven, Valkenswaard and Veldhoven. It is not known exactly how many reports are involved.
More than 30 millimeters of rain has already fallen in various places in the south of the country, Weerplaza reported on Twitter at 6.45 pm. ‘Locally, the precipitation sum even exceeds 70 millimeters, which is more than the normal monthly amount of precipitation for June! Local flooding is therefore inevitable.’
According to Weer.nl, so much precipitation has never been measured at the KNMI station in Eindhoven in one day. In total, more than 48 mm of precipitation fell. The old record was measured on August 28, 1996 and was 47.1 mm. In total, more than 40 mm of precipitation fell in Eindhoven in just 7 days, according to the KNMI.
In Veldhoven, the police called for some time to avoid the area around the Dorpstraat, but in the other places they were also advised to stay indoors ‘if possible’. People who had to go outside were asked to be careful.
The Brabant-Zuidoost Safety Region warned of dangerous situations, such as manhole covers that could wash away due to the abundance of water. ‘Be aware of this when you go outside’. Streets were closed in several places as a precaution.

Images of the flooding were shared en masse on social media. You could see how streets were completely flooded and how cars struggled to get through the puddles. The nuisance was not limited to the outside world. There were leaks in the Eindhoven Parktheater and the Albert Heijn on Roostenlaan, among others.
Limburg also had to deal with flooding. Images on social media showed how streets in Echt and Roermond were flooded.
Highways
Rijkswaterstaat reported that several highways in Brabant and Limburg were also affected by the flooding. Some lanes were closed as a result. These included the A2 at junction Vught, the A50 at Nistelrode and the A59 at Rosmalen. Motorists had to expect some delays.
The second wettest Whitsun Day ever was recorded in De Bilt. On Sunday, according to Weeronline, 21.5 millimeters of rain fell. The KNMI issued a code yellow for the whole of the Netherlands on Sunday due to showers with local precipitation and a small chance of thunderstorms. In the meantime, there is no code yellow anywhere in the country. Although there will still be some rain showers on Monday morning, they will be less heavy than the thunderstorms on Sunday.
