This Wednesday, the National Meteorological Service (SMN), attached to the Conagua, anticipates a complex climate panorama in Mexico. The third heat wave The season continues, affecting much of the country with extreme temperatures and adverse weather events.
In this context, it is expected temperatures above 45°C in 16 stateswhile the capital of the country and 12 federal entities will have high probability of tornadoes.
Impact of the heat wave in Mexico
The heat wave will persist, with ttemperatures that could exceed 45 °C in several federal entities. Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Veracruz will be particularly affected. In addition, maximum temperatures of 40°C to 45°C are expected in Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, northern Hidalgo, northern and southwest Puebla, northern Querétaro, Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
In Aguascalientes, the southwest of the State of Mexico, Guanajuato and Zacatecas, temperatures will range between 35°C and 40°C, while in Mexico City and Tlaxcala they will be recorded between 30°C and 35°C.
Given this scenario, the population is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and pay special attention to chronically ill people, children and the elderly. Health and Civil Protection authorities issue constant recommendations to mitigate the effects of heat.
Risk of tornadoes and other weather phenomena
The meteorological situation is complicated by the prevalence of a dry line in the north of the country. This, in interaction with atmospheric instability at high levels, the current of winds maximums, and the humidity of the Gulf of Mexico, together with an out-of-season frontal system, will foster conditions for the formation of tornadoes in areas of Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Coahuila. Winds of 60 to 80 km/h are forecast, which increases the probability of whirlwinds.
Likewise, low pressure channels in the north, center and southeast of Mexico, combined with the humidity of the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, will produce intense rains in various regions. Heavy rains are expected in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos and Querétaro. Showers will affect Aguascalientes, Chiapas, Durango, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas, while Nayarit, Colima, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Yucatán will have isolated rains.
Recommendations and precautions
The Rains could be accompanied by electric shocks and hail, which will increase the risk of flooding, rising levels in rivers and streams, overflows, landslides and flooding. Civil Protection authorities urge the population to follow their instructions to avoid incidents.
As for the winds, gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are anticipated with possible formation of whirlwinds in Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Querétaro and Zacatecas. Dust devils are expected in Baja California Sur and San Luis Potosí. Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatán will face winds of 40 to 60 km/h, while dust devils will affect Baja California, Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, Sonora, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.
This forecast highlights the need to pay attention to updates from the SMN and Conagua, as well as take precautions to minimize the risks associated with these extreme weather phenomena.
