Younger people are most concerned about heat waves and temperatures. Around a quarter of those surveyed had health problems because of the heat.
Hamburg – The current weather with high temperatures and heat waves scares 70 percent of people in Germany. According to a recent survey, 50 percent of the citizens surveyed are very worried about extreme heat and 20 percent are very worried.
Accordingly, younger people were the most concerned. 20 percent of all participants were “very worried”. In the 18 to 29 age group, the proportion was significantly higher at 29 percent. 68 percent, almost two-thirds, believe that the government’s measures are not sufficient. Respondents expect more.
Heat survey: Crafts and production are particularly affected
People who do heavy physical work, for example in crafts or production, are particularly affected by the heat (91 percent). Three quarters consider the care sector in retirement and nursing homes to be particularly affected and 52 percent consider medical care in hospitals. Schools and day-care centers named 44 percent of those surveyed, office jobs ten percent.
26 percent already had health problems because of the sun and heat. At 34 percent, women are twice as affected as men at 18 percent. 74 percent complained of exhaustion and tiredness, 68 percent suffered from sleeping problems and circulatory problems. 54 percent of those surveyed suffered from impaired consciousness or were confused. The Institut Forsa interviewed 1033 people for the representative survey from June 27th to 30th.
Politicians call on Lauterbach to take action against the heat
From Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach demanded the health policy spokeswoman left in the Bundestag, Kathrin Vogler, one Action plan against the heat. “Poor people in cheap, poorly insulated apartments and shelters, especially in urban areas, suffer more than those who live in air-conditioned apartments or homes with a garden,” she told the daily mirror.
“The Federal Ministry of Health has a duty to prepare the population for an extraordinary heat wave – like the one we are facing in the next few days – and to inform them about appropriate preventive measures,” said Stephan Pilsinger, political spokesman for health CSU-Landesgruppe in the Bundestag, also the daily mirror.
