Healthcare Helsinki is buying more time to repair medical services for children and young people

Politicians will decide on the price increase and continuation of the service voucher in counseling centers and school and student health care.

Helsinki the city is working to buy more time to get congested medical services for children and young people in order.

On Tuesday, the Social Welfare and Health Board will discuss price increases for service vouchers for medical examinations in clinics, school and student health care and vocational examinations. At the same time, the use of banknotes is expected to continue for the time being, when it was supposed to be possible during the spring.

In Helsinki there has been a shortage of doctors even before the pandemic. Statutory inspections for pregnant women, children and young people have not been carried out.

The service voucher was introduced at the end of 2020. The city has tried, and to some extent succeeded, in hiring more doctors, but still not enough. For example, 52 percent of places in school and student health care are unfilled.

Service vouchers have been offered to those who do not have special health concerns. Many have been satisfied with the banknote, but access to the treatment may have taken too long with the banknote link. This, in turn, is due to the fact that only one service provider was initially found for school and student health care and not for counseling at all.

Of the Office a motion to politicians promises that the city will work to get medical posts filled. The means for this are said to be raising salaries and renewing the job description together with doctors.

As this takes time, it is desired to continue using the service voucher without a set deadline. At the same time, the banknote values will be raised because the more expensive price for the city is believed to help find more service providers to do medical checks.

It is not permitted to charge a customer fee to a citizen using a service voucher. As these are indeed statutory inspections, the value of the banknote paid by the city to the service provider must fully cover the price.
