It is with the awareness of having to rebalance the relationship between man and natural systems that it is born Planetary Health Festival (https://planetaryhealthfestival.it/), a path aimed at catalyzing interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaborations in all aspects of the economy, society, knowledge and health. The mission of the project, promoted by Healtival, a company of the Edra Lswr group, with the patronage of the Municipality of Verona, will be to encourage awareness and information about the health of the planet for the next few days (3-4-5 October), highlighting the indissoluble link between human, environmental and animal health. The final objective will be to actively involve citizens in promoting their own health and that of the planet, through a unique opportunity for exchange and discussion to plan future actions that combine environmental and health knowledge.
The Minister of Health, Horace
Schillacipresent at the inaugural session, highlighted the need to imprint a holistic vision in the health system: “I willingly participate in this festival, dedicated to a crucial theme such as ‘planetary health’, the health of the third millennium. The pandemic has taught us how much human health is closely connected to animal and environmental health. For this reason, in the reform of the ministry, we have established a One Health Department, an approach that will also be central in the next G7 Health in Ancona. Today we are better prepared, but we must look carefully at what is happening, not only in the human world, but also in the animal world, and not only that. I am also thinking of climate change: everything that happens has an impact on the health of our environment surrounds us to make it better because it has a huge impact on health. We are working to ensure effective and sustainable healthcare.”
“Verona – said the mayor Damiano Tommasi – it is a crossroads of peoples and cultures due to its location and therefore has this nature of being a meeting place. This is why we thought of hosting the Planetary Health Festival in our city: precisely because of the meaning it takes on in its form of widespread space, open to dialogue and knowledge”. At the helm of the Festival’s scientific committee – reports a note – a panel of leading experts including Walter Ricciardiprofessor of hygiene and preventive medicine at the Catholic University of Rome and president of the scientific committee: “Climate change and the collapse of biodiversity. These are among the most important global challenges that threaten the future of our communities and the planet itself. We must act decisively, because our ability to face these crises will define not only the quality of life today, but also the world we leave to future generations.”
