Counselor Pedreño insists that “no patient is going to be neglected, because the health centers are still open and the professionals will be there to attend to them”
The Murcian Health Service (SMS) will close 13 clinics in July, according to information released on Monday by this department. In some cases, there will be no activity throughout the month, while in other centers the closures will occur on specific days. The Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño, stressed that the measure affects “a dozen of the 170 clinics that we have open in the Region,” and insisted that “no patient is going to be neglected, because the health centers are still open. and the professionals will be there to attend to them».
The number of closed clinics is far from the 72 that came to suspend activity in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus crisis, although it reflects the difficulty in hiring family doctors with whom to supply staff vacations. The SMS has offered 42 temporary contracts, of which 30 have been taken care of, while 12 have remained deserted for the time being.
Specifically, in health area I, Barqueros (from July 1 to 15), La Murta (from July 15 to September 15) and La Puebla de Mula (July 22 to 31) close, so that patients They will be treated at the reference health center. In area II, the measure affects San Isidro (July 1 to August 31), El Escobar (July 1 to August 31) and La Pinilla (July 11 to September 1).
There will also be closed clinics in area III, in Lorca: La Tercia (from July 1 to 31), La Campana (July 17 to 31) and La Escucha (June 20 to September 13). For its part, in Jumilla the office of the Barrio de San Juan suspends its activity, from July 15 to August 31. In area VII they close Barriomar (July 20 to August 19), Orilla del Azarbe (July 1 to September 30) and Matanzas (from July 1 to 31).
“In Yecla nothing is going to disappear”
To questions from the media, the Minister of Health also addressed the situation at the Yecla hospital. About 3,000 residents of the town demonstrated this Sunday in defense of the maintenance of health services in the face of the loss of specialists suffered by the Virgen del Castillo. The center has been left without a neurologist, after losing all but one of its radiologists in recent years. Pedreño sent a “calm message” and pointed out that in the last ten years the workforce of the area “has increased by 113 professionals.” “47 million are invested a year in health in Yecla, five million are planned to expand technology, with the incorporation of magnetic resonance, and 5.7 million are going to be invested in a new health center, which will allow expanding the outpatient pavilion of the hospital, “he explained.
The problem “lies in the lack of doctors in certain specialties. We have many specialties in Yecla and there are four that are affected by this deficit, which is a problem that affects the entire national territory », he pointed out. The SMS «is carrying out a series of strategies, such as the creation of functional units, to continue providing adequate and quality care to the citizens of Yecla. Nothing is going to disappear », he insisted.
Radiology has been reinforced with seven professionals shared with Morales Meseguer to “cover care from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and after the summer there will be guards on weekends,” explained Pedreño.
