Health The pollen season may become easier for allergy sufferers last year

Birch, hay and pujo in particular are painful for more than a million Finns from spring to late summer. With the change in climate, the alien scent is also becoming more common.

From the beginning The pollen season is becoming easier than last year, says the University of Turku’s pollen report. At least those allergic to alder and birch pollen can be hopeful for spring and summer.

Pollen from alder and walnut bushes is already present in small amounts, mainly in southern and south-western Finland. They don’t thrive here yet, but pollen travels farther here with the air currents.

“They start (flowering) as early as January in Central Europe, so pollen has been around for some time. At the moment, their flowering area is bordered in southern Sweden, ”the docent says Annika Saarto The University of Turku’s pollen report.

I ‘m alive and walnut pollen has so far been present in Finland mainly in small quantities, at most moderately.

Pollen can travel with air currents quite efficiently, for example from southern Germany, Saarto says.

Especially in the case of the walnut bush, it is the air currents that affect the high concentrations of pollen in Finland. Its flowering does not have as much annual variation as, for example, alder and birch. This year, they may become less pollen symptoms last season.

According to the Duodecim Health Library, there are more than a million pollen allergy sufferers in Finland. According to Saarro, birch is the most important pollen allergen in Finland.

“Birch blossoms last year so abundantly that this year’s season may become easier for allergy sufferers. Even algae is not expected to bloom as abundantly as a year ago, ”he says.

I ‘m alive and the flowering of the walnut bush can start in Finland already in March, in the birch in April.

“In southern Finland, the peak of birch flowering is around May Day,” says Saarto.

After birch, there are also hay that causes significant symptoms to Finns, which, according to Saarro, includes different species. Allergic symptoms are caused by species belonging to the hay group to vary from person to person. The grasses begin to bloom in May and continue to bloom until the end of summer.

For grasses, a proper seasonal forecast is still not possible because there is so much variation in their growing conditions.

“What is the weather at the moment when the hay protrudes out of the ground and forms an inflorescence? Is the ground wet and warm? ” The blockade describes.

Pollen season There may be a lot of throwing between southern and northern Finland at the beginning, when the back winter, for example, may still be a surprise. The flowering of various trees and plants and the peak of flowering are slowly shifting from the southern parts of the country to the north. Still, summer starts in different parts of Finland at about the same time, Saarto says.

The last major domestic allergy plant of the season is pujo. It often begins to bloom in central and southern Finland at the same time, at the turn of June-July.

“In recent years, we have also reported on the scent, which is related to pujo. Its pollen is even more aggressive and makes it more susceptible to symptoms, ”says Saarto.

Even the smell of pollen is transported to Finland every year from the south of the country, where the species can grow and bloom.

“As the climate warms, you can probably expect that there will be more and more pollen in the Finnish atmosphere,” Saarto estimates.
