The head of the training center for Russian national ski teams, Alexander Kravtsov, was detained in a criminal case of large embezzlement. It is reported by RIA News with reference to the Public Oversight Commission.
The receptionist of Kravtsov denied this information.
The investigation is being conducted by the Investigative Committee of Russia under Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Misappropriation or embezzlement on an especially large scale”), says Moskovsky Komsomolets. The basis of the criminal case was the materials of inspections, including those of the Accounts Chamber. According to the investigation, from May 2014 to July 2017, six people were registered by the analysts of the complex scientific group, and one more – for the position of an athlete-instructor of the Russian national skiing team. However, in fact, they did not work in their positions, although they received salaries according to the timesheets. The amount of damage amounted to 14.45 million rubles.
Meanwhile, sources familiar with the situation call the accusation unsubstantiated, pointing out that the people actually worked, the shortcomings revealed during the inspections were of a technical nature. The background to the criminal case may be associated with an official conflict between Kravtsov and an employee of the center.
67-year-old Alexander Kravtsov is an honored coach of Russia; skier Larisa Lazutina was his ward. He serves on the Presidential Council for the Promotion of Physical Education and Sports, the cross-country skiing committee of the International Ski Federation. Kravtsov headed the Russian Biathlon Union for four years, led the Russian delegation at the Olympic Games in Sochi.
