His Highness the President of the State, may God protect him, said in a speech during the forum that climate change is one of the issues It is extremely important, and it must be addressed through cooperation and joint action, in order to avoid its negative repercussions and great cost on humans, societies, the environment and the global economy. His Highness stressed that the world is going through a critical stage in the field of climate action today, which requires us to accelerate efforts and joint action, pointing out that the repercussions of climate change are being reflected on all countries and societies, and these repercussions are constantly increasing, and will have a great cost on the global economy, human life and environmental diversity. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan added: “The UAE views climate action as an opportunity to advance the paths of economic and social development towards new horizons, by focusing on practical solutions that all countries can benefit from,” stressing that the UAE is continuing its commitment as an active partner to the international community. In climate action efforts, and keen that the Conference of the Parties (COP28) is able to deal with the challenges of the current stage through a realistic, pragmatic, comprehensive and integrated approach that ensures the participation of all countries and parties and discusses their needs and requirements.
His Highness explained that the UAE, as part of doubling its efforts to confront climate change, has invested more than $50 billion in clean energy projects in more than 40 countries around the world, and plans to invest more than $50 billion over the next decade.
His Highness also affirmed that the UAE is committed to achieving a low-emissions development path, and will work to update and provide its nationally determined contributions according to the agreed timetable.

During the forum, President Joe Biden urged state leaders to put climate action at the top of the international agenda, in light of the instability of the geopolitical situation and its repercussions on energy and food security, stressing the need for cooperation to mitigate these repercussions by supporting initiatives aimed at accelerating capacity building in The field of clean energy, strengthening the food system and reducing its vulnerability to climate change and disruption of supply chains. He pointed out that these initiatives include the New Energy Path initiative within the global pledge on methane, the collective goal of deploying zero-emission vehicles by 2030, the “Clean Energy Technologies Demonstration Challenge”, the “Green Charging Challenge” and the “Global Fertilizer Challenge”. . The UAE has a proven record of achievements in the field of effective climate action, climate diplomacy and multilateral cooperation, as it is the first country in the region to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement, the first country to commit to reducing emissions in all economic sectors, and the first country to announce its strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. This contributed to its selection to host the Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.
The country has also assumed regional leadership positions in the field of investment in renewable and clean energy projects locally and globally, and has become the first country in the region to operate a nuclear power plant to produce peaceful energy that is free of carbon emissions, and it currently operates three of the largest and least expensive solar power plants in the world.
