Once the weapon stopped, the former railway employee, originally from Caserta, tried to hit the 78-year-old with the butt of the gun in the head, but she managed to disarm him. She then took a stick, which she used to walk, and finally also tried to strangle her.
Those who blocked the man – as the ReiTV news explained – were gods neighbors who, alerted by the woman’s screams of pain, intervened and took her away until the police arrived and stopped the man. The couple’s daughters also live in the house, but they were not at home at the time of the attack.
The attempted murder, which occurred yesterday afternoon, would be linked to a ancient economic dispute between the former spouses. The 87-year-old was arrested for attempted murder and receiving a firearm and after being interrogated in the barracks he was taken to a protected facility under house arrest pending validation from the investigating judge.
The victim was taken to hospital in Acireale for several injuries: she remained alert and reconstructed what happened to the police.
