In just six months, a man committed two sexual assaults in the town of San Juan de los Terrerosa neighborhood of Pulpí in the Levante of the province of Almería. The violations occurred during 2023 and almost a year later the Civil Guard, within the framework of operation ‘Ikigai’, managed to arrest him.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Gijón Court on guard duty, which declared his entry into prison unconditionally without bail. The investigation has been carried out by the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard of Almería, under the direction of the Investigative Court No. 3 of Huércal-Overa.
The attacks drew the attention of investigators due to the degree of violence used and their level of preparation. The first rape occurred in April 2023. The man used a knife and several zip ties with which he intimidated and immobilized the victim.
Once the woman was tied up, he took her to a hidden place where the attack could be carried out. According to the Civil Guard Command of Almería, according to the place and time in which the attack occurred, the investigators concluded that the aggressor must have remained hidden in the surroundings. Thus, he carried out ‘waiting’ tasks to approach the victim in the most favorable conditions possible.
The second attack took place on the same stage and using the same modus operandi on October 19, 2023. The attacker approached a victim and, at point of knife and after tying her up, took her to the same place where the sexual assault took place in the month of April.
Investigators carried out exhaustive work to identify the people who were in the vicinity of the scene at the time of the attacks, including the collection of biological samples. As a result of the investigation carried out, clear and objective indications were obtained, as well as scientific evidence, that the author of both attacks was the same person.
This person turned out to be a vhorse from the town of Águilas (Murcia), located at a certain distance from the scene of the events. Finally, on October 21, the alleged aggressor was arrested in Gijón (Asturias), the place where this individual had established his residence. A home search was also carried out in which computer equipment and telephones were intercepted, which made it possible to collect new evidence of the events investigated.
