In a quiet neighborhood in northeast El Paso, the early morning hours of April 29, 2023 became a scene of tragedy. Daniel Antonio Mergil, a 27-year-old man, lost his life in violent circumstances, leaving behind his wife and his young son.
At 3:11 a.m., an emergency call alerted police to a vehicle that had crashed in the yard of a home in the 5900 block of Ameen. Upon arrival, officers found Daniel wounded by a gunshot behind the wheel of his car. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
Preliminary investigations suggested the shooting occurred near the 6100 block of Ameen, near the U-Haul storage facility. Security cameras captured a black four-door sedan, with chrome wheels and possibly chrome door handles, speeding away from the scene. This vehicle became a key piece of the mystery surrounding Daniel’s death.
