His contract as a waiter was not renewed at the end of the summer season, so a 39-year-old man smashed the car of the owner of the restaurant he worked for with a sledgehammer and then set the restaurant on fire. It happened in Sirolo, in the province of Ancona, in the “Terrazzamare” shop. The man, from Porto Potenza Picena, is now under house arrest, for him the charge is aggravated damage and attempted fire. His partner, a 33-year-old from Reggio Emilia, also had the same fate. The blitz of the two dates back to last September 18, around 2 in the morning. The investigations were carried out by the carabinieri of the Numana station, coordinated by the Osimo Company, led by the commander Luigi Ciccarelli.
The first target was the owner’s Range Rover, dented with a blacksmith’s sledgehammer. Then it’s the club’s turn. The carabinieri have reconstructed the dynamics of what happened: the 39-year-old broke the glass of a French window to enter the restaurant, then used flammable liquid to wet some wooden tables stacked up against a window. He then tried to set everything on fire, but although flames were generated, thanks to the resistance of the materials and the use of fireproof surfaces, they did not spread. Some wooden furniture and the curtains of the window near the ignition point caught fire. Above the restaurant stands a Bed & Breakfast, a possible widespread fire could have caused a tragedy.
