Barranquilla, historically, has been the home of the Colombian National Team. After a first tie in 1965, in which a virtually amateur roster was eliminated from the World Cup in England 66, the team began a long relationship with the capital of the Atlantic.
Playing as a local in Barranquilla, Colombia qualified for five of the six World Cups in which it has participated: Italy 1990, United States 1994, France 1998, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018.

However, in the last two ties, the team has not performed as well at home. On the road to Russia, he only got 15 points out of 27, although he made up for it with what he got on the road. The tie for Qatar 2022, which left the National Team without a quota, first, with Carlos Queiroz, and then, with Reinaldo Rueda, showed a poor Colombia at home: 13 points out of 27, a balance that, this time, could not recover at home
Juan Guillermo Cuadrado recognized the difficulty of playing in Barranquilla
Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, one of the leaders of the National Team, referred to the issue on June 10, at a publicity event in Bogotá.
“Playing in Barranquilla is difficult, not only for the team that comes. It is difficult for us. In many games I have seen the team in difficulty. I speak personally, not because I want to change the home of the National Team, never. But it is done difficult. People do not understand how hard it is when you come from Europe to Barranquilla, with time changes and without sleeping well, “he declared then.
Néstor Lorenzo, for now, has no plans to change venues to play
The headquarters of Barranquilla was one of the topics that the new coach of the Colombian National Team, Néstor Lorenzo, was asked at the press conference in which he was presented in Bogotá, last Tuesday.

“I felt comfortable with the seven years at the headquarters in Barranquilla because I think there was a special energy, but well, that is to be evaluated later,” Lorenzo assured. The question, moreover, was related to the fact that the Argentinian today leads a high-altitude team, Melgar de Arequipa, at 2,300 meters.
The truth is that in the Colombian Football Federation, at least for now, they do not plan to change their headquarters. In fact, it should be remembered that in October of last year a sports venue was opened in Barranquilla, to facilitate the work of the National Team. Although there is another with similar characteristics in Bogotá, a change does not seem feasible at this time.
