There Mercedes came out the winner in the discussion this afternoon, in which she was called as an interested party by the Federation, regarding Red Bull’s request to increase the sentence imposed on Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone. The tests brought by Christian Horner’s men to the Commissioners did not add anything new to what the judging body already possessed during the British Grand Prix and some – such as the simulator lap or that of Albon in the Pirelli tests – were not deemed “discoveries” but “creations” of the team based in Milton Keynes. The final paragraph of the FIA document included a sibylline: “The Commissioners note, with some concern, some allegations in the applicants’ letter“.
The mystery seems to have been solved, with the hard replica of the Mercedes, which refers to some observations attached in Red Bull’s defense dossier. The following press release was disseminated through the social channels:
“The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team welcomed the Commissioners’ decision to reject Red Bull Racing’s right to review. In addition to wanting to put an end to this incident, we hope that this decision can mark the end of the concerted attempt by Red Bull management to tarnish Lewis Hamilton’s good name and sporting integrity, as was also the case in the documents presented in the right to review, We look forward to racing this weekend and continuing the tough battle on the track for the 2021 Formula 1 world championship“.
