India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is celebrating his 34th birthday today i.e. on 17 September 2020. Ashwin made his international debut in 2010 and played his first ODI against Sri Lanka in Harare. Ashwin bowled brilliantly in his debut test and became the man of the match.
Ashwin earned his name in the IPL and in 2011 he was included in the team in place of Harbhajan Singh. He made an amazing debut in Test debut and took 9 wickets, which is the second best performance by an Indian after Narendra Hirwani in a Test debut.

This is how the debut test
Ashwin made his Test debut in Delhi and played the first match against the West Indies. Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India won the match by 5 wickets and Ashwin became the man of the match. Ashwin took 3 wickets for 81 runs in the first innings while in the second innings he took 6 wickets for 47 runs, which reduced the visiting team to 180 runs.
In that first (three-Test match) series, he had 22 wickets, a century and the tag of India’s leading spinner. He struggled in Australia but performed strongly in the home series against New Zealand in 2012 and took 18 wickets in 2 Tests.
Fastest 300 wickets in Test
Indian off-spinner Ashwin is the fastest bowler to take 300 wickets in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in 54 Tests, two short of Dennis Lillee.

Ashwin took 7 wickets for 103 runs against Australia in 2013 in Chennai and two years later he took 7 wickets for 66 against South Africa in Nagpur. In 2015, Ashwin also played an important role in helping India win a historic series in Sri Lanka, taking a total of 21 wickets. After this series, his name recorded the feat of taking five wickets in 27 Tests.
Ashwin batted at number-6 on the West Indies tour in 2016, scoring two Test centuries. He became the third player in Antiga (after Jack Gregory and Ian Botham) to take seven wickets in a single Test match and score a century. He was named ICC Cricketer of the Year and Test Player of the Year in 2017.

He has also excelled in batting in his Test career and has scored a total of 2389 runs with the help of 4 centuries and 11 half-centuries. He also scored a half-century in ODIs and scored 675 runs.
