Spanish handball is in mourning after learning of the death this Saturday, at the age of 28, of the player Raúl Pérez Álvarez after a long fight against colon cancer that was diagnosed years ago.
Player and goalkeeper of the Vigo club Union Balonmán LavadoresPérez combined his sporting passion with his job as a nurse. The goalkeeper, in addition to his renowned fame for the sport, was especially loved in a community that now mourns his loss.
Raúl Pérez lived for a long time with an illness that had already forced him to stay away from the hardwood courts for a few months before returning stronger. ““The illness makes you think more that life is very short and you have to try to enjoy it much more.”he came to say with an attitude that he maintained until the end of his days.
