Handa is one of the Peruvian singers who have made the urban genre sound strong in recent months. Whether due to her shootings against other artists or the controversy she starred in with Leslie Shaw on various television media at the end of 2023, the artist has known how to use that impact to add more followers and has opened a window to make visible more compatriots who work in said musical genre.
In conversation with La República, the young woman opened her heart to reveal details of the bad time she went through during the scandal she was involved in with Leslie Shaw after blaming the 'blonde' for not wanting to support Peruvian singers and also confessed that the repercussion of the The topic made her think about abandoning her career. In addition, she reveals details of her meeting with Magaly Medina and calls on more Peruvians to work on her dreams, since she is fulfilling hers and will become the only Peruvian present in All Music Fest 2.5 along with international artists such as Ñejo, Jon Z and Noriel on March 16 at the Lima Sports Cultural Center (Chorrillos).
—Handa, but how accurate is the title of your new song, 'Karma'. Is it perhaps your own testimony of what you have experienced in recent months?
—'Karma' is a song that has been written directly for people who do wrong and also do badly. I have always believed in karma and it is a song that represents me a lot. Of course it is directed for someone and they will discover it the moment they listen to it.
—Users directly related him to Leslie Shaw. Is this perhaps the last blow in the controversy they have had?
—Who knows if it could be the last one or there could be more.
—After all the comments that both have said to each other, do you think karma is going to come to her? For you, was it a very strong exposure blow?
—There are two ways of thinking. Karma exists, although there are also people who do evil and do well. Despite that, I know that people who do evil and do well are never calm. I know that you will not have peace of mind (addressing Leslie Shaw) and that is part of the karma that can come to you. Since I was little I have always said what I thought from the heart. I am calm because I know that I do it with a good objective, I do not do it with malice, I do not do it to cause harm to anyone, but because I am defending the things that seem fair to me.

—You appeared on Magaly Medina's program and that surprised everyone because you accepted that you took advantage of the fame that Leslie gave you after the intense questions that 'Maga' asked you.
—I was trusting, perhaps more than I should have. I thought I was going to be more biased and I was going to ask about my career, about who Handa is, the rapper people are talking about. I didn't think that when she arrived (to the ATV set) she was going to be attacked. She is also part of my personality, not fighting or dealing with people who have no idea how things really are and I think that Magaly is not a reference when talking about music. I think she can talk about ampay, to talk about that type of things, but about music I don't feel that she is a reference or someone who can give an accurate opinion about it.
—Were you afraid to sit on the set? Magaly is a direct driver and you knew what you might be exposing yourself to.
—Yes, really yes, I was afraid and asked what we were going to talk about. Why would I fight with someone who doesn't know what he's talking about, I simply gave him his side, I told him 'well, if they want to say that I took advantage, that I hanged myself, let them say so.' She wanted me to continue stating things that she didn't want to say. Before the interview, I had other plans when speaking with Magaly.
—Do you think the production of the program deceived you?
—Yes, I asked what we were going to talk about. I spoke with the producer. They told me: 'Don't worry, she (Magaly) is going to ask you about your career, she already knows that you sang with the Rolling Stones, she knows that you have supported Cazzu.' I went without my armor, I didn't know we were going to fight. It was an attack, a total attack, because they wouldn't even let me speak.
Did Handa think about retiring from music because of the criticism?
—After the program and the rain of criticism that fell against you, did you ever think about walking away from music?
—Totally, yes, I thought about leaving my career due to my lack of experience. I saw all those comments, the hate, and I felt bad. I thought I had tainted my career. But then I realized that it wasn't like that, but on the contrary, I had reached a lot of people who didn't know me before. Some had Magaly Medina as a reference and obviously they are not going to think differently than her. Likewise, there are other people who I also reached and who knew my music. People realized that I was not an improvised or new girl, I have represented Peru in other countries. I have worked with international artists. So, I am the one who can give an opinion about the urban genre in my country. There are many women who are mothers who believe that they cannot get ahead with a career of this type, and I think I am an example of that.
