The qualifications of the Mexican Grand Prix generated disappointments at Ferrari for the performance of their drivers, but they also reserved surprises: above all, that of Valtteri Bottas, with the former Mercedes author of the 6th time at the wheel of his Alfa Romeo. Speaking of the aforementioned Anglo-German house, the Brackley team can also enjoy an excellent result with both its standard bearers, both immediately behind of the poleman Max Verstappen.
While George Russell will be the first to try to attack the Dutchman, too Lewis Hamilton he will try to take advantage of the long starting straight of the Mexican circuit to take the lead in the first corner, also focusing on the potential shown by the Mercedes shown between Friday and Saturday. A positive weekend so far both for the eight-time world champion and for the British, still on the hunt for his first success of the season.
A milestone that could be reached in Mexico City, on a track that is enhancing the characteristics of the W13 after the updates brought by the team in the previous United States GP, and which seems to express the best of its potential on an altitude circuit: “I am proud of the team – commented a satisfied Hamilton – this is the best qualifying of the year. It is the proof that you should never give up and that perseverance is the way to go, so a big thank you to everyone here and in the factory. The laps were quite similar to each other, but obviously when the first one is canceled, you have to make sure the second is completely clean. There was still room, but it’s great to be so close to Red Bulls after chasing them every weekend this year. So, we’ll keep pushing and I’m pretty happy to start with P3. The road to the first corner is long ”.
A year ago Max Verstappen starting from the third position he managed to take the approaching outside of Curva-1, the clean trajectory, managing to disconnect 15 meters deeper than his opponents by taking the lead with a spectacular and perfectly successful maneuver without going long. We’ll see today if Hamilton will provide a replica of the Dutchman’s prowess.
