Hamilton-Ferrari, Mazzola speaks
Luigi Mazzola during a long live broadcast on his Instagram profile he commented on the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari starting from 2025 with a multi-year contract. Below is a summary of his opinion based on the various facets inherent in the operation of the century.
An operation by John Elkann
“I am pleasantly surprised by the Hamilton-Ferrari operation, also because everything seemed the same as last year, same teams, same driver pairs, everything really seemed frozen. I think it's a move wanted by John Elkann and they both did well to pursue this mutual dream. Plus it's been a long time since we've seen a world champion in a Ferrari.”
Winning mentality and pressure
“We haven't won in Ferrari for 17 years and Hamilton will bring a much-needed winning mentality. For example, I remember Verstappen who in Austria insisted on making the pit stop at the end to also get the additional point. 'So you keep yourself trained', was his 'joke' relating to the extra stop. Here Hamilton will bring that mentality where everyone will be tense on the violin string and it is one of the effects that Elkann also wanted to unleash by making two exceptional drivers available to the Scuderia. The Hamilton move puts pressure on Ferrari as early as 2024 because it will be the season in which they catch up with Red Bull and then fight for the title with Hamilton and Leclerc as early as 2025.”
The effects on Leclerc and Sainz
“A driver wants to prove that he is the fastest and best of all and Leclerc will be able to have Lewis Hamilton as a point of comparison. Leclerc is no longer a talented young man who has yet to express himself. Sainz? If I were Sainz I wouldn't be so depressed. He is replaced by Lewis Hamilton, not Albon. If I were Carlos I would give everything in 2024 to prove that I am faster than Leclerc.”
