In an interview with “Reuters”, Hamdok said, “We expect that the performance of the technocratic government will have a positive impact on economic performance and the livelihood of citizens.”
He added that “the new year’s budget will continue the approach of economic reform and open the doors for investment in Sudan.”
He stressed that “completion of the peace process with the armed factions is among the priorities of the Sudanese government,” adding: “We are committed to democracy and preserving rights, including freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.”
On Sunday, Hamdok and the army chief, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, reached a political agreement stipulating “the restructuring of the committee to dismantle the June 30 system,” and “accelerating the formation of the Legislative Council and the Constitutional Court and the appointment of the chief justice.”
The agreement also included “cancelling the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to relieve the Prime Minister,” in addition to “the Transitional Sovereignty Council’s supervision of the transitional period without interfering with the executive work.”
The agreement concluded between Al-Burhan and Hamdok stipulates the release of all political detainees in the country, while stressing the acceleration of the formation of transitional government institutions.
The agreement stressed that the constitutional document is the main reference for completing the transitional phase in Sudan, but with the need to make an amendment in order to expand political participation.
The agreement signed in Khartoum stresses the need to implement the Juba Peace Agreement, as well as the formation of a unified national army.
