His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, mourned the poet Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen, who passed away yesterday, at the age of 75. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, in a blog post on the “X” platform, yesterday: “The full moon has disappeared, which illuminated the space of poetry, love and feeling with its words, and which over many years created our memories and shaped our most delicate feelings.”
His Highness added: “May God have mercy on the poet Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen Al Saud… and sincere condolences and sympathy to the honorable House of Saud, and to lovers of the word everywhere. Today we lost a full moon whose light cannot be replaced.. (The street lights faded.. and the light of the letters went out).”

Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was born in the capital, Riyadh, on April 2, 1949, and grew up in a house of science and literature. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honored him in the same year, coinciding with the occasion of World Poetry Day, for his unique poetic, artistic, and cultural contributions that spanned more than 40 years. The General Entertainment Authority also celebrated it in a night entitled “The Night of Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen: Half a Century and the Full Moon.” At the time, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority, Turki Al-Sheikh, announced that the theater built specifically for this occasion would be named the Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen Theater.

“The years have increased during my wedding..
Seventy, other than what some of them got
And it must, Saud, when the sun sets..

Perhaps it is my freedom after my imprisonment.
Perhaps I will receive a compensation from my Lord.”
