In view of the launch of Halo Infinite we return to see the title of 343 Industries in action.
Less than a month to go Halo Infinite from 343 Industries and while the developer gave us an in-depth look at the campaign at a recent event, even more gameplay emerged thanks to videos from IGN and Game Informer. These show the level of openness and the campaign as well as provide details on how open world works.
In its preview, IGN notes that while it appears to be an “open world”, Halo Infinite is more concerned with providing great sandboxes for players. Zeta Halo is essentially broken down into “pieces” connected to bridges.
One of the main open world assets are the Forward Operating Bases which previously belonged to the UNSC and are now claimed by the Banished. Eliminating them will put them back under the control of the UNSC, open a fast travel point, and provide Valor. Valor provides access to various weapons, vehicles (including the Scorpion Tank) and Marines. While the equipment provided will give you an edge in missions, it appears that clearing bases and gaining Valor is optional. During the game, The Weapon, Chief’s new AI partner, will note UNSC objectives, camps, and distress calls.
Then there are the larger Banished structures that need to be cleared by destroying the energy sources. You will also have to face special Banished targets that provide a unique version of their weapon that can be equipped later. There are also secret rooms in some locations guarded by Banished which grant unique weapons such as the Backdraft Cindershot. Collectibles such as UNSC audio logs and armor for multiplayer can also be collected, along with Skulls.
Halo Infinite will be released on December 8 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
