Three out of four respondents are pessimistic about the evolution in the coming months
The concern of Murcia for the economic situation and its evolution in the coming months continues to grow. Inflation led by the rise in fuel prices, the energy crisis and the consequences of the war in Ukraine have intensified during the spring and have slowed down the post-pandemic recovery, as reflected in the latest Cemop barometer. More than half of those surveyed, 53.2%, rate the regional economic situation as bad or very bad. The figure represents an increase of 17 points with respect to the previous study.
Although it may sound paradoxical, the percentage of the population with a positive opinion doubles, shooting up from 13% to 27.9%. Another novelty is that the number of respondents who consider that they qualify the current moment as regular has decreased significantly: in the last barometers they were almost half of the respondents, but this time they fall to 17%.
Pessimism for the coming months
The study also reflects that pessimism is widespread for the coming months. The economic forecasts anticipate that inflation will take time to be contained, that fuel prices will continue to rise and national and international organizations continue to revise GDP growth for this year downwards. Those surveyed for the Cemop study are aware of these perspectives.
Three out of four Murcia believe that the economy will remain the same or will worsen within a year. The most pessimistic are the voters of Podemos and Vox: almost half believe that the evolution will be unfavorable. On the other hand, the most optimistic are the supporters of the Popular Party and Ciudadanos, since more than 25% expect a change for the better by the spring of 2023.
gender gap
If the gender gap is still very present in many aspects of the economic world, it is not surprising that opinions are divided. The percentage of women with a negative assessment of the current situation rises to 57%, almost 10 points more than among men. In addition, a third of them rate it as good or very good, 11% more than them.
