The Half-Life 2 patch adds a lot of new features.
Half-Life 2 has seen some small updates over the years. Now however, before the release of Steam Deck Valve wanted to refine his shooter with a major update, for now in beta, so that the game looks smoother not only on the laptop but also on all modern PCs.
While not publicly announced on the game’s store page, the Half-Life 2 beta update was spotted by the Valve-centric YouTuber. Tyler McVicker. The update supposedly includes numerous bug fixes that have gone unresolved for years, increases the FOV limit to 110, and adjusts the UI to support ultrawide resolutions.
Perhaps the most notable addition is support for the Vulkan rendering API, which works much better with Linux-based operating systems such as SteamOS. Valve brought Vulkan support to Portal 2 in February, and with Half-Life 2, McVicker now believes we can expect most of Valve’s catalog to be updated to work flawlessly on Steam Deck.
The Half-Life 2 beta update is not yet ready to be released. McVicker notes that there is a micro-stuttering issue with the current build, but players who can’t wait can download it through the game’s Beta drop-down menu.
