Iceland’s National Broadcasting Corporation (RIUV) reported that businesswoman Hala Tomasdottir won the presidential elections in the North Atlantic country on Sunday, and will assume the honorary position as successor to current President Gudni Johansson.
According to the report, Tomasdottir (55 years old) received 34 percent of the voters’ votes yesterday, Saturday, ahead of former Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir, who resigned from her position in April to run for president, but she received only 25 percent of the voters’ votes.
