According to the study, 4.3 million people on the island face hunger and it has one of the highest levels of food security in the world, with 22 percent of children suffering from chronic malnutrition.
Women are also the main victims of violence, both physical and verbal, psychological and sexual. This is because many times they are forced to maintain intimate relationships to support their home if they are single mothers.

“I’m pregnant and I’m malnourished, because I can’t get food. Sometimes I don’t eat anything for a day, I buy food on credit or the neighbors give me something to eat,” Locita, a single mother, tells the organization about the situation that Hundreds of women live in your country.
I am pregnant and I am malnourished, because I cannot get food.
This discouraging panorama does not come alone. Among the reasons for the food crisis are events of political instability, such as the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July last year, and the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck the country a month later.
Citizens, in addition, experience great insecurity due to gangs and an increase in violence, also a product of the disturbances generated by the rise in the prices of basic foods that the whole world has experienced since the start of the pandemic and that it was accentuated after the Russian invasion in the Ukraine.
The situation in Haiti affects the whole world. According to the UN, in 2021 hunger affected more than 820 million people in the world, so one of the Sustainable Development Goals will probably not be met that proposed ending that problem, along with malnutrition and food insecurity, by 2030.
For this reason, organizations such as Plan International have taken action by giving support especially to pregnant and lactating women in the Central American country with water storage kits, cash to buy food and gender violence prevention campaigns.
