President Jovenel Moise was assassinated on July 7 in his apartment.
Island state Haiti said goodbye to its assassinated president Jovenel Moiselle on Friday. Moise, shot just over two weeks ago, was buried in his hometown of Cap-Haitien.
Outdoor funeral ceremonies lasted several hours. Government representatives and foreign diplomats each stopped to honor the president’s widow Martine Moisea, who was injured in a blow that killed her husband and received treatment for her injuries in the United States.
President Moise, 53, was not very popular in Haiti. During his reign, prime ministers changed frequently, and the country has not had a functioning parliament recently. Moise also tried to increase the president’s powers.
Haiti is the poorest country in Latin America.
