Chevrolet Corvette does not forget the American style, and returns to the global market with the version Z06. The supercar with stars and stripes mounts a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 670 horsepower with the accompaniment of a design that once again also winks at European taste. Arriving two years after the debut of the first production mid-engined Corvette, the Z06 is designed as “precision tool for the track“, Declares General Motors.
The sound and appearance of the Z06 ‘2023’ take inspiration from Corvette Racing. The car achieved increased airflow through the side vents, with the front fascia being designed to optimize the engine’s cooling needs, including channeling air to a central heat exchanger. The standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear forged aluminum “spider” wheels (with five finishes available) are the largest available on a production Corvette. Specific suspension tuning, including Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, and larger brakes (six-piston front) than the Stingray, help make the Corvette Z06 a track machine. The car is fitted with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with a specific and “shorter” final gear ratio than the Stingray.
According to Chevrolet, “more than power, the new ‘LT6’ is designed to complement all aspects of the track-centered performance experience. From its dry sump lubrication system to meticulously tuned induction and exhaust systems, the engine exudes an entirely new character“. The key to performance would be an all-new flat-deck crankshaft which, together with a relatively short stroke (the distance each piston / connecting rod assembly travels with each crankshaft rotation), allows the engine to reach maximum revs. The standard Z06 also features a unique front splitter and rear spoiler, providing an extra 165.6kg of payload at 299.3km / h.
The ‘Z07’ performance package, optional, offers more downforce thanks to a carbon fiber rear wing and increased ground effects, with a specific frame tuning, a specific Magnetic Ride Control calibration and exclusive Michelin Cup 2 R ZP tires, along with Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and carbon fiber wheels.
