Strategic alliance
The rumors arrived during the summer and were promptly confirmed: the American team Haas and Toyota entered into a new technical partnership which was made official today with a press release from the team owned by Gene Haas. No entry of the Japanese into the Circus as suppliers of power units: Ferrari will remain in the role of engine manufacturer, which has ‘blessed’ this union with Toyota. However, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team will be the “Official Technical Partner” of the stars and stripes team.
“Under the new multi-year agreement – reads the official note made public by Haas – the two parties will share skills and knowledge, as well as resources: Toyota will provide design, technical and manufacturing services, while the Haas team will in exchange offer technical expertise and commercial advantages. With the aim of advancing the team’s development and competitiveness within Formula 1, Toyota will further develop its knowledge and expertise in several areas through involvement with the team.” An agreement therefore with advantages for both parties.
The green light from Ferrari
The words of thanks from Ayao Komatsu, Haas team principal, confirm the important role in defining this new alliance not only of Ferrari but of F1 itself: “I am enthusiastic about this new technical partnership – declared Komatsu – having a world leader in the sector automotive that supports and works alongside our organization, while seeking to develop and accelerate its technical and engineering skills, generates a partnership with clear benefits for both parties. The ability to draw on Toyota Gazoo Racing’s resources and knowledge base, whilst benefiting from their technical and manufacturing processes, will be instrumental to our development and our clear desire to further increase our competitiveness in Formula 1. In return , we offer a platform for Toyota to fully utilize and advance its internal engineering capabilities. I am naturally delighted to have had the support of Formula 1 and our long-standing partner, Scuderia Ferrari, with whom we announced the continuation of our partnership at the start of the season. Together with Gene Haas, I would like to particularly thank Stefano Domenicali (CEO – Formula 1) and Fred Vasseur (Team Principal – Scuderia Ferrari) on this front,” concluded Komatsu, before also thanking Toyota’s top management.
