Gymnastics Jani Tanskanen continues to be at the top in international sports: “People have noticed that I have done quality work”

Finn top sports got a significant vantage point when Jani Tanskanen continues on the board of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

Tanskanen was elected by a large number of votes to the FIG board in Belek, Turkey. The Japanese will continue to chair FIG Morinari Watanabe.

In the second round of voting, Tanskanen received 36 votes. Romanian only Maria Fumea received more votes (67) in the second round than the Finnish world champion in the sleigh.

“I had a pretty confident choice, although you can never know how this will go. Fortunately, people have noticed that I have done quality work for gymnastics, ”Tanskanen commented to HS on Belek on Saturday.

There were a total of 18 people on the board, seven of whom were elected. The turnover was considerable when four new members joined the board.

For the general public, FIG’s actions will be reflected in the rules of the sport, which will change in early 2022. For example, the scoring of perpetual gymnastics changes, and the series of movements earns points differently than before.

Permannon’s recent World Cup bronze medalist Emil Soravuo said in an HS medal interview that the new rules will add more difficulty to the program.

Soravuo is Finland’s first World Championship medalist in 24 years. Tanskanen won World Championship gold on a sleigh in 1997.

Tanskanen works in the Finnish Olympic Committee’s top sports unit, where he is the group leader. One of the ten types of responsibilities is specifically gymnastics.
