The Guyana Armed Forces reported that the missing helicopter was found on Wednesday on the border with Venezuela, specifically in the disputed Essequibo territory.

In a statement released by the Guyanese Armed Forces Facebook account, it was indicated that the search efforts revealed the location of the aircraft, a Bell 412, but that the seven crew members were still missing.
The United States announced that it will carry out military aerial exercises in Guyana, right in the middle of the dispute and the aerial incident.
“In collaboration with the Guyana Defense Force, the United States Southern Command will conduct flight operations within Guyana on December 7,” said a statement released by the US embassy in Guyana.

The United States announcement comes four days after a referendum held in Venezuela for the Essequibo territory, which further escalated tensions between both countries that have been fighting for this oil-rich area administered by Georgetown for more than a century.
