The military junta that governs Guinea announced this Monday (29) that the deposed president, Alpha Conde, was sent to his wife’s house, after having kept him incommunicado for months.
The 83-year-old Count ruled the African country for nearly 11 years before being deposed on September 5 in a military coup.
In a statement broadcast on state TV, the junta said Conde was at home with his wife, Hadja Djene Kaba Conde, in a suburb of the capital. It was unclear whether he is under house arrest or had other restrictions.

The junta “will continue to give the former head of state treatment according to his position and does so without any national or international pressure,” the statement added.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) imposed sanctions on several coup leaders and demanded “the unconditional release” of Conde.
ECOWAS also suspended Guinea from the bloc and called for elections to be held within six months.
The country’s new strongman, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, was sworn in in October as interim president.
Although he pledged to hold elections and restore civilian command, Doumbouya did not set a deadline for the transition.
The military, former member of the French legion, justified the coup by accusing the Count of corruption and authoritarianism.
The junta dissolved the government and replaced ministers, governors and mayors with handpicked soldiers and administrators.
In 2010, Conde became Guinea’s first democratically-elected ruler, but sparked widespread protests when he reformed the constitution to allow his re-election for a third term.
Although he was re-elected, his critics denounced that election as a farce.
