Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expects midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to return from injury soon after missing his side’s home Premier League match against Arsenal.
The 33-year-old was suffering from a suspected thigh injury during Wednesday’s goalless draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League.
Manchester City host Championship side Watford in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday before visiting Newcastle United in the Premier League early next week.
“I don’t think it will be long,” Guardiola said of De Bruyne’s possible return after Manchester City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. “I can’t say how long he will be out of the games, and I don’t know his position against Newcastle, but the injury will not last long. He has pain in his legs.”
De Bruyne missed four months with a hamstring injury last season but made a memorable return at St James’ Park by scoring in a 3-2 win over Newcastle in January as City top the table with 13 points from five games.
