First analysis of GTA Trilogy on PS5, not exactly flattering.
The arrival of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy surprised many, especially when the first images were released. The work is really of a high standard, considering the twenty years that the three titles have on their backs. New textures, new shaders and new lighting system have worked wonders, bringing games that may not be in step with the times but that have their own dignity.
The first gameplay and even the first analyzes also begin to appear, which strangely, on PlayStation 5 do not seem to give the hoped-for results. One would expect a fixed 60 FPS in any situation ─ even 120 to be honest, given the power available ─ yet, something is wrong. GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas both have the classic performance and Fidelity modes with in the latter, framerate locked at around 30 and a higher resolution.
What is striking is the performance mode which, as the name suggests, should be a guarantee. In all three titles there are noticeable drops, going from 60 to 30 FPS in the blink of an eye.
GTA San Andreas seems the most stable chapter, but even here there are noticeable drops. These tests are carried out with day one patches applied and it is really impressive to notice these problems in titles that yes, certainly have had a substantial technical improvement but that does not justify such performances. It will be interesting to see further tests on other systems as well, even if the outcome could be the same.
