The head of the press center of the South group of troops, Vadim Astafiev, reported on January 21 that the Russian military repelled four attacks by assault groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
“Units of the South group of troops successfully repelled four attacks by assault groups of the 24th mechanized, 81st airmobile brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of the settlements of Shumy and Belogorovka,” he quotes as saying TASS.
As Astafyev noted, the artillerymen of the Russian Armed Forces hit the manpower and equipment of the 22nd, 28th and 93rd mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the areas of Kleshcheevka, Kurdyumovka and Chasov Yar. The enemy in the Donetsk direction lost up to 320 Ukrainian fighters wounded and killed.
According to him, during the counter-battery fight, the 152-mm Msta-B howitzer and the 152-mm D-20 gun were eliminated. Air defense (AD) and electronic warfare (EW) systems shot down six Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the areas of Bogdanovka and Belogorivka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), as well as a HIMARS missile.
Earlier, on January 20, Astafiev said that the Russian Armed Forces repelled a counterattack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the DPR settlement Bogdanovka. The group's artillery and attack drones hit five ammunition depots, two UAV control posts, an electronic warfare station and 13 dugouts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
