The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that the organization plans to increase the number of its experts at the Zaporozhye NPP from two to four, writes on October 6 Reuters.
At the same time, according to journalists, Grossi refused to recognize the nuclear power plant as a Russian facility. The day before, the head of the IAEA went to Kyiv, where he plans to discuss the situation around the station.
Zaporozhye NPP has been repeatedly shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On October 1, Grossi expressed deep concern about the repeated explosions of landmines near the ZNPP. However, the IAEA has never directly stated that the strikes are carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Moscow indicated that the agency is under pressure from Western countries.
In early September, the station was visited by the agency’s mission headed by General Director Rafael Grossi. The specialists were presented with evidence and evidence of constant provocations and shelling by Ukraine. The main part of the mission participants left ZNPP, two IAEA representatives remained at the station for constant monitoring.
On October 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to transfer the Zaporizhzhya NPP under Russian control, signing the corresponding decree. The Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation until 2028 needs to establish the specifics of the use of financial and other resources to ensure the safety of nuclear power plants.
On September 30, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Kyiv regime continues provocations in order to create a threat of a man-made disaster at the ZNPP. The Russian side has repeatedly noted that the actions of the Ukrainian military could lead to a nuclear accident. Station facilities have already been damaged several times. Due to the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in September, the operation of the station was completely suspended.
