Romain Grosjean is ready to face the next scheduled appointment in the IndyCar Series, which will take place on the track of Gateway, in Illinois. For the Frenchman, the last “rookie” in the history of the US category coming from Formula 1, there will therefore be an opportunity to make his own absolute debut on the oval circuit. Up to now, in fact, the former Haas had competed in the 2021 championship only on classic or city tracks, without ever having experienced the sensations inside a basin, having not participated in the Indianapolis 500.
“Next week I’ll be a real rookie – commented the Frenchman – I’ve been named like that all year, but I’ve never felt like that. A Gateway will be different. I will try to learn as much as possible, also because it has nothing to do with all the experiences I have lived in the past ”.
“The feeling is very strange, because the car goes almost by itself and you can control the speed. It will be a beautiful emotion, and it will be fun. I still prefer the traditional tracks, but everything you can imagine on this type of track is wrong: it is not at all simple and requires a lot of concentration, so much so that I still have a lot of things to learn. The race will be exciting – concluded Grosjean – because every time you take the curves at those speeds, the adrenaline is always very high “.
The former F1 driver, who has effectively ended his career after the terrible accident in Bahrain in 2020, will take to the track in the number 51 car always at the wheel of the team Dale Coyne Racing, making its official debut on Saturday.
