Green Pass, Coldiretti’s alarm: “100 thousand unvaccinated in the fields. Crops at risk “
The obligation of the green pass could jeopardize harvesting in the fields, where about 100 thousand workers have not yet been vaccinated. Coldiretti estimates it, according to which about 25 percent of Italian and foreign agricultural workers have not yet received the vaccine against the new coronavirus, one of the requirements for obtaining the Green Covid-19 certification which will be mandatory for all workers in Italy from Friday.
“In order not to let the production on the trees rot, it is important to intervene to facilitate access to work for those who are in good standing” affirms the president of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini, underlining that “agricultural activity is linked to the seasonal cycles of crops and cannot be stopped “.
According to the main association of growers in Italy, the obligation will apply to about 400,000 workers who are currently working in the countryside, where the harvest is in full swing.
Prandini asked for measures to simplify green pass checks. “It is important to make the data of those who comply with the green pass quickly available to companies”, said the president of Coldiretti, highlighting how farms “cannot count on turnstiles for checking workers’ entry”, being outdoors. He also asked to extend the residence permits for non-EU seasonal workers already present in Italy, in addition to the publication of the 2021 flow decree, the provision by which the government establishes every year how many non-EU foreigners can enter Italy for work reasons.
