The Council of Ministers plans to authorize today the tender for these works in the Mediterranean Corridor, and only the burying of Lorca would remain pending
The Council of Ministers plans today to authorize the tender for another of the most expensive and complex sections of the Mediterranean Corridor, the one that corresponds to the municipality of Totana, which includes the construction of six viaducts and a new intermodal station that will replace the current one .
The contract for this section, corresponding to the Murcia-Almería line, has an estimated value of 178,838,554 euros (without VAT) and an execution period of 30 months. With this tender, all the sections between Murcia and Almería are under construction or in the contracting phase (tender or award), with the exception of the integration in the core of Lorca, whose basic project is in the drafting phase.
The Government of the nation highlights that this action reaffirms the commitment of the Ministry of Transport and Mobility and Adif AV with the planning and development of the Mediterranean Corridor, with new actions that promote and advance in the construction of this strategic infrastructure.
In addition, it contributes to the achievement of different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as number 9, which has among its goals the development of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure, and 11, which seeks to promote accessible and safe transport .
Roads for mixed traffic
The works will be carried out on a 9.9 km section that runs entirely through the municipality of Totana. In the execution of the platform, the construction of a new intermodal station is planned to replace the current one. The new layout places the Totana station at kilometer point 227/690, about 500 meters from the current station.
The projected platform corresponds to a double track layout, suitable for mixed traffic (passengers and goods), in accordance with the functional study and the planned design and prepared for maximum speeds of 300 km/h.
The section, given its length and its development through the peri-urban area of the town of Totana, entails numerous effects on service, supply, sanitation and irrigation facilities. Among the most noteworthy actions are the construction of six viaducts, which will total 3,174 meters in length, including the one that will cross the A-7 motorway, 954 meters long. Their purpose is to allow the permeability of the municipality, save existing infrastructures and the intersections with various boulevards (Rambla de los Arcos, Rambla de Totana, Rambla de La Peras and Rambla de Lébor).
In addition, there will be four overpasses, two of them for the replacement of cattle paths and 2 underpasses. Likewise, 56 transversal drainage works will be carried out.
Other actions will consist of the replacement of supply, conduction and sanitation, electrical and telephone services, as well as easement roads.
