Like hardly any other country in the EU, Greece is fighting against the delta variant of the corona virus. Around 70 percent of those infected are affected by the mutant.
Athens – The Greek health authorities are sounding the alarm: The incidence in the country on the Aegean Sea continues to rise *. On Thursday, July 22, 2021, it was already 179.6. For comparison: around three weeks ago, the number of new Covid 19 infections extrapolated to 100,000 people within seven days was still 28.8. The biggest problem with this: the delta variant. Experts warn that the mutation of the corona virus could account for around 70 percent of the infection rate in just a few days.

The delta variant is already dominant in Greece for new infections in connection with Sars-CoV-2. But the health authorities expect a further significant increase in the variant.
Arkoumaneas assumes a weekly increase of up to ten percent and expects that more than 70 percent of those infected in Greece will soon be affected. The head of the health authority identifies the Greek islands as particularly bad regions. In fact, the Greeks are worried about a new corona lockdown so that Greece’s vacationers could run away in the summer months.
