Greek football is in shock. Panathinaikos and Greek national team defender George Baldock, 31, was found dead in the swimming pool of his home in Glyfada. The owner of the house discovered the body, alerted by the footballer’s wife who had not heard from him. It was her daughter’s birthday.
Investigations are underway to establish the dynamics of the accident and, according to some reconstructions in the Greek media, a bottle of spirits was found on the spot.
Baldock was born in Buckingham, England in 1993 but had dual citizenship, English and Greek, due to his father’s family. After playing for Sheffield United for a long time, he moved to Panathinaikos last summer. After the move, his wife still hadn’t joined him. From 2022 Baldock also played for the Greek national team, with which he made 12 appearances.
