Colombia secured representation in both the women’s edition of the tournament, which will be played in Lancaster (Pennsylvania), starting on May 30, and in the men’s edition, which will begin on June 13 in Pinehurst.
The Santander native, who is going through a brilliant moment, has the goal of reaching the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a tournament in which she will end her professional career.
It will be her 11th participation in the US Open, in which she had her best performance in 2008, when she was still an amateur player: that year she finished in tenth place. This year, in addition, she won the South Wales Open, in Australia, valid for the Ladies European Tour.
Echavarría achieved the spot in a complicated field
There were 11 spots in dispute and Echavarría finished in first place, with a cumulative score of 135 strokes, seven under par, with rounds of 67 in the morning and 68 in the afternoon.
“I am very happy with this classification, for me it is an important step in my career and now I have to work to make the cut in a large tournament. I have been hitting the ball well, the results have improved and I am calm with my game, however, these tournaments are special and we have to continue working to reach the best level,” declared Echavarría, who this week will play the Charles Schwab Challenge. in which his compatriot Camilo Villegas will also be present.
