Granada has registered a new earthquake at around 9:00 this Sunday. As revealed by the National Geographic Institute (IGN), The epicenter of the earthquake was the town of Atarfe and the magnitude was 3.3. This is the 26th earthquake that has occurred in this area since on Saturday there was another of magnitude 4.4.
“We are within a seismic series that began a long time ago and is normal”, affirmed the head of the prevention area of the Andalusian Institute of Geophysics and Physical Disaster Prevention of the University of Granada (UGR), Mercedes Feriche, who revealed that the earthquake has left no structural damage.
According to the EFE agency, 112 this Sunday received several notices from Atarfe, Granada capital, Vegas del Genil and Maracena, and was felt in other towns in the area, such as Cenes de la Vega, Alhendín, Las Gabias, Pinos Puente, Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, Huétor Vega, Monachil, Otura, Cájar or Chimeneas, among other.
Between yesterday morning when the largest earthquake was registered at 12:15 p.m., of magnitude 4.4, until the morning of this Sunday the earthquakes that have occurred they have oscillated in a magnitude between 1.6 and 3.3. Feriche reported that the latter is “a small earthquake, which is not moderate,” but being superficial and very close to populated localities, the effects are alarming.
This is a “normal” phenomenon.
In addition, he added, he explained that the seismic series consist of a set of earthquakes that occur very close in time and geographically, in which none in particular stands out, but several, and that there may be more intense than 4.4, such as collects EFE. “The main earthquake is yesterday, that does not mean that there are no more earthquakes, we do not know”, has stated.
