Immediately the surprise
The great performance of David Alonso in the qualifications of Spanish Grand Prix he seemed to be able to indicate the name of the winner of the Jerez de la Frontera race well in advance. Instead, shortly after the green light was turned on, history took a completely different turn in favor of Collin Veijer, the undisputed protagonist from the sensational twist at the start to the checkered flag. An episode that also indirectly favored Daniel Holgado in the world rankings, who was still present on the track today despite a fracture in his right foot following a fall in yesterday's qualifying.
Race report
The key episode of the fourth round of the championship occurred shortly after the start: Alonso, immediately fighting with Muñoz for first position already in the first corners, then regained the lead of the race shortly before the end of the first lap. However, just when the Colombian seemed to be laying the foundations for success, here's the big surprise: at the entrance to the last curve#80 lost control of his CFMoto, ending up in the gravel and relegated to last position, despite managing to get back on track. Already on the following lap, however, Veijer took the lead of the GP, overtaking Muñoz, in search of his first career victory in the MotoGP right in front of his home crowd. From that moment on, however, the Dutchman defended himself until the end of the race, taking advantage of the opportunity to slightly pull ahead of Muñoz and Ortolà, especially in the first half of the race, with the latter engaged in the fight for 2nd place. Behind them, Yamanaka closed the group of the first four riders distanced from the rest of the group, with the Japanese only losing pace in the final stages of the GP. In this situation, Muñoz attempted the decisive overtaking on Veijer on the last lap, failing to do so despite finishing in a photo finish. In doing so, the Husqvarna rider took his second career victory, his first since last year's Malaysian GP. Despite the crash at the start, Alonso still managed to finishrecover up to 11th place finishwhile Holgado crossed the finish line in 8th place ahead of the Italian duo of Carraro and Nepa, who thus completed the top-10.
