The Americans have a craving for Formula 1. They proved it in Austin – by invading the Texan city for the entire weekend and putting on a show in the stands with over 400,000 admissions over the course of the weekend – and they aim to do the same next year in Florida, in what will be the first GP in history held in the city of Miami. To highlight the great attention of the stars and stripes public towards the Circus are the impressive requests for tickets for next year’s race around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. The numbers revealed by the CEO of Liberty Media Greg Maffei in a call with Wall Street analysts they are emblematic.
“We had never seen such a crowd in Austin – commented Maffei – that race set a record attendance during the GP weekend. Of the 400,000 people who showed up at COTA, nearly 70% were attending its first grand prix. We are thrilled to have our second race in the US and to welcome the Miami GP in May – added Maffei – the demand is high. 275,000 people pre-registered to purchase tickets, compared to an expected capacity of around 80,000. 1,800 people paid a $ 5,000 deposit for luxury hospitality, paddock clubs and suites. They have run out of availability since the first day. We also sold all the grandstand tickets available on the first day “ concluded the American manager.
