Race report
Canet regains the leadership lost to Ogura at the start during a very chaotic first lap characterized by several crashes, including that of Celestino Vietti and a long shot by Tony Arbolino. Shortly afterwards, Jake Dixon, who started from the front row of the Indonesian GP, also crashes, while Canet immediately pulls ahead of Lopez and Ogura, who also has to defend himself from the threatening return of Aldeguer. The expected attack on the Japanese driver materializes on the 6th lap, but in an attempt to move into second place over his compatriot during the eighth lap he ends up long, relegating himself to the edge of the top-10. A mistake that pushes and motivates Ogura to return to Lopez’s exhaust, overtaking him on lap 13 for second position, just before Sergio Garcia’s crash. Another twist that allows the Japanese to strengthen his championship leadership, extending his advantage over the former championship leader on the eve of his home GP in Motegi to 42 points. At the end of the race the challenge between Aldeguer and Lopez becomes exciting, with the latter managing to resist the attacks of his compatriot to maintain the final third place.
